Wooden constructions at MOREAS PEAK

In the boutique hotel Moreas Peak, assiouras bros undertook the supply and installation of wooden cladding and the construction of a wooden external balcony. Moreas Peak is located in the highest settlement of mountainous Arcadia, in the picturesque village of Magouliana. The village is in harmonious balance with the natural environment, built amphitheatrically on the steep mountainside, amidst dense fir forest. The whole settlement is an example of organic architecture, where buildings and environment form an integrated design. The materials of the natural environment, mainly wood and stone, are found in the exterior and interior of the buildings, sometimes as structural elements, sometimes as flooring or furniture.

We were called upon to serve these principles of traditional architecture by implementing wooden constructions for the exterior and interior of the building. On the exterior we constructed a wooden balcony made of Iroko timber. A wood exposed to the outdoor environment of mountainous Arcadia, which also functions as a load-bearing element, must be resistant (against fungi, moisture) but also stable (in compression and tensile forces). Moreover, it must be dimensionally stable with high density. Iroko is such a wood. Elegant, with warm tones and mild isobaric waters, it integrates naturally into the traditional design of the building.

Aged Pine, a timber that is naturally integrated into the traditional design of the Moreas Peak boutique hotel, was chosen for the interior cladding of the building. Pine belongs to the softwoods, as does spruce. It is a lightweight wood with obvious roses and uneven grain. It is unpretentious and natural, as each piece of wood is unique. Its aged appearance enhances the traditional – rustic style of the room. The end result is a warm, natural and inviting space.
